I practice therapy through a psychoanalytic/psychodynamic framework, which means that I am interested in helping you understand the way your past currently affects your life in order for you to develop a healthier and happier today and tomorrow. We will process the current troubles and symptoms you are struggling with in collaboration with each other. By developing insight and learning how to cope with challenging emotions, therapy can propel you forward into a healthier and more fulfilling life. I approach each patient with nonjudgmental curiosity and will help you to develop this curiosity about yourself as well.
Beginning therapy can be a scary and overwhelming process. Recognizing this, I employ deep compassion and empathy for my patients’ struggles. Working together, we will learn more of the “why’s” behind the challenges you are facing and will come up with ways to help you feel and function in healthier ways.
In addition to my psychodynamic framework, I also incorporate other helpful treatment modalities as needed, including mindfulness and meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychoeducation.
When treating those with eating disorders, I collaborate with your multidisciplinary treatment team, including your Registered Dietician, Physician, and Psychiatrist. If you do not have a treatment team, I will help you to develop one so that all aspects of your health and wellbeing are addressed. It is very important for your physician to assess any medical complications related to your eating disorder and to help evaluate if outpatient therapy is an appropriate level of care.
